Christmas Stockings Project
Each Christmas season, Open Air Ministries works with other ministries or inner city
churches to distribute filled stockings to children. These stockings are provided by
many of our supporting churches (most of them are Evangelical Congregational Churches).
You can help by providing filled stockings, and you can help by coming to Philadelphia and
working with us to hand out the stockings after the kids clubs.
If you or your church would like to join in providing stockings or coming to Philadelphia,
please contact us.
*Stockings must be delivered to us by December 1, 2018*
Steps to project:
1. You will need stockings that can be filled with small presents for children.
These stockings can be made out of felt or you can purchase them.
We have also had them made out of a strong fabric, with a red or green ribbon attached
at the top to indicate boy or girl.
If you would like to make stockings you can find a pattern here: PATTERN
Here is another pattern in three pieces with instructions PATTERN.
These patterns are only the size of an 8 x 11 sheet of paper, so the pattern will need to be enlarged.
Stockings MUST BE DESIGNATED as BOY or GIRL.
It is best to color code them - green for boys and red for girls.
This makes it a little easier when giving them out.
2. Collect small presents to put inside the stockings.
Start EARLY !
DO NOT WAIT UNTIL NOVEMBER
a. Place a box somewhere in the church and have people drop of their gifts.
OR
b. Collect money and have someone or a group of people go shopping for gifts.
OR
c. Place a box in the church for stocking stuffers and get donations for the
shipping costs.
3. Put the stocking stuffers into the stockings!
a. Choose a day - maybe after church on a Sunday, or a Saturday morning
and have a group put the stocking stuffers into the stockings.
b. Place the stockings into boxes and have them shipped to us - or make
arrangements to have them brought to us.
4. Some ideas for stocking stuffers:
GIRLS:
Jewelry, jump rope, stickers, coin purse, jacks, socks for girls,
watches, ribbons, pony tail holders
BOYS:
Games, matchbox cars, trucks, trading cards, handball, small army
figures, socks for boys, watches.
ALL KIDS:
Candy, gum, puzzles, small games, pencils with pizzazz, crayons,
small books, puzzle books, colored pens, play dough
(PLEASE NO FRESH FRUIT)
